Team Hell No vs. Team Rhodes Scholars | January 27, 2013 WWE Royal Rumble 27/01/2013

WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No vs. Team Rhodes Scholars | January 27, 2013 WWE Royal Rumble 27/01/2013

Having already scored a massive non-title victory over WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No, the Team Rhodes Scholars combo of Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow will look to repeat their good fortune — this time, in title competition — when they face Kane & Daniel Bryan at Royal Rumble.

Now in their fourth month as WWE Tag Team Champions, the oft-mutinous Kane & Daniel Bryan have seemingly found their groove, and thanks to a recent reevaluation by Dr. Shelby, their relationship appears less frayed than ever before. Nonetheless, has Team Hell No found its match in the sly pairing of Rhodes & Sandow, who initially aligned for the sole purpose of dethroning the champions?

Since returning from the disabled list in December 2012 with a healed shoulder and a trend-worthy flavor saver, Rhodes —who was put out of action by Kane in the first place— has joined “The Intellectual Savior of the Masses” in reestablishing Team Rhodes Scholars as not only one of WWE’s most confident teams, but also as a serious threat to the championship gold. Though they narrowly lost a WWE Tag Team Title Match to Team Hell No on the Dec. 19 edition of WWE Main Event, Rhodes & Sandow avenged the setback in impressive fashion on the Jan. 7 Raw. After Bryan tweaked his knee in the heat of competition, Rhodes pounced on the vulnerability and pinned the “No!” man with the Cross Rhodes.

The ill will between the two teams was heightened further during Kane & Bryan’s visit to the WWE Universe’s favorite anger management specialist, Dr. Shelby, one week later.  Guests of the doctor, Rhodes & Sandow were invited to the session to provoke Kane & Bryan as part of Dr. Shelby’s “exposure therapy.” Before the experiment could get under way, however, “The Essence of Mustachioed Magnificence” and “The Intellectual Savior of the Masses” began heckling Dr. Shelby, questioning his credentials and going so far as to compare him to a poor man's Dr. Phil.

Faced with the annoying needling and overbearing arrogance of Rhodes & Sandow, even the mild-mannered Shelby lost his cool, prompting Kane & Bryan to find their true “happy place,” which appears to be a unified stance against Team Rhodes Scholars.

With the score in tag action ostensibly even, which alliance will prevail in the WWE Tag Team Championship rubber match at Royal Rumble? Will the endlessly talented, and obnoxious, Team Rhodes Scholars finally get its first taste of championship gold, or will Team Hell No — empowered by Dr. Shelby’s endorsement to let loose on Rhodes & Sandow — continue its winning ways? For tag team aficionados and facial hair fanatics alike, Royal Rumble’s WWE Tag Team Title Match has the potential to be a tide-changing affair. Don’t miss out on the tandem action when it takes place live on pay-per-view Sunday, Jan. 27, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Fatal 4-Way Match for the Intercontinental Championship
Intercontinental Champion The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara & Cody Rhodes
16/09/2012

In an unpredictable Fatal 4-Way Match featuring four of WWE’s most agile and athletic Superstars, The Miz overcame the odds and retained his coveted Intercontinental Championship in a most unique and unexpected fashion.

Though Mysterio and Rhodes are former Intercontinental Champions, the exciting Sin Cara certainly had a legitimate claim in challenging for the championship in Boston’s TD Garden.

The contest would also feature the first time The Master of the 619 and Sin Cara would face off as opposing opponents. The Miz certainly had the deck stacked against him — he would not have to submit or be pinned to lose — but the resilience of The Awesome One certainly worked in his favor.

The bout began with alliances forged between Rhodes and The Miz against the masked luchadores. The WWE Universe rose to their feet after the Mexican Superstars teamed up and managed to remove their opponents from the ring. But before they could wow the WWE Universe with an old school, first-hour-of-WCW-Nitro-style Cruiserweight battle, Miz and Rhodes quickly went back on the offensive.

In the early goings of the contest, the bout appeared to be more of a Tornado Tag Team Match rather than a Fatal 4-Way. However, with the rules of the match in play, it was a matter of time before Mysterio and Sin Cara locked up for the very first time in history. The unprecedented athleticism of both competitors brought back memories of the legendary rivalry between Mysterio and Psicosis.

But the two other combustible elements of the skirmish were not to be taken lightly, and the Intercontinental Champion fought to keep his title intact. Uneasy alliances were definitely evident as Miz and Rhodes would team up, only to exchange blows after and the same went for WWE’s masked marvels.

Arguably the most athletic matchup of the evening, all four competitors used their impressive agility to their advantages at every available opportunity. On opposite ends of the ring, Sin Cara took the fight to The Miz while Mysterio took down Rhodes on the outside of the ring.

As expected in a Fatal 4-Way, chaos eventually reigned supreme and every competitor fought hard for the chance to become part of history as the Intercontinental Champion. As Rhodes faced off with his arch nemesis — Sin Cara — in the center of the ring, Rhodes’ obsession with the Mexican Superstar’s mask added an unexpected dynamic to the battle.

After Rhodes failed to remove the mask, Sin Cara revealed another mask tucked away in his ring gear and attempted to cover his enemy’s face with it. Though he was unable to cover Rhodes’ face, he managed to sloppily slip a mask onto The Miz, blocking The Awesome One’s vision. The highflier’s ingenuity ultimately back-fired when Rhodes grabbed him and prepared to take out the luchador with Cross Rhodes. As the former Intercontinental Champion seemingly had another title reign within reach, a basically blindfolded Miz managed to grab hold of Rhodes, execute the Skull-Crushing Finale and win the matchup.

Defending and retaining his title against two former Intercontinental Champions and the high-flying Sin Cara, The Miz proved in front of the sold-out TD Garden that he is certainly among the elite in WWE and is a Must-See Intercontinental Champion.

Just as the match was getting under way, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes continued in his efforts to embarrass his WrestleMania XXVIII opponent, Big Show. This time, instead of showing video of The World’s Largest Athlete losing a match on The Grandest Stage of Them All, Rhodes played a clip of Show eating at WWE's former New York restaurant on the day of WrestleMania X8 and played it off as footage of Show in his “natural habitat.”

The video distracted Show long enough to give The Miz an opening to attack him from behind. The advantage was short-lived, however, and in a matter of moments, Show turned things around with a mammoth spear. He then finished off his former Show-Miz partner with a jaw-shattering WMD.

Once again, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes emerged to make fun of Big Show's 3-8 WrestleMania record, claiming that by costing the giant an opportunity to go to The Show of Shows at Elimination Chamber, he “saved” him from “floundering” yet again.

When The World’s Largest Athlete joined him in the ring, however, Rhodes quickly exited into the crowd. Before Show could pursue him, Theodore Long put a stop to it, announcing that the two adversaries would face off for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. (MATCH PREVIEW)

Then, as Rhodes sat in with the SmackDown announce team, Big Show battled Mark Henry in the ring. Charged with the prospect of impending WrestleMania redemption, the gigantic Superstar kicked out of the World’s Strongest Slam, then landed the WMD to reign supreme over the former World Heavyweight Champion.

April 1, 2012 Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes (Intercontinental Championship Match) | WWE WrestleMania XXVIII 28 | 1-4-2012

April 1, 2012 John Cena vs. The Rock | WWE WrestleMania XXVIII 28 | 1-4-2012:
Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes (Intercontinental Championship Match)
April 1, 2012
WWE WrestleMania XXVIII 28 | 1-4-2012

Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes will have to back up his words on April 1 in Miami. On that day, he’ll find out if Big Show truly is a WrestleMania bust - as he has professed time and time again - when he attempts to defend his illustrious title against the angry giant on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

For weeks, Rhodes has taunted Big Show over his win/loss record at The Show of Shows. He dubbed the giant the “Reverse Undertaker,” going on to ridicule several of the former World Heavyweight Champion's matches. He mocked Show's Sumo Match loss to grand champion Akebono at WrestleMania 21, as well as his defeat at the hands of Floyd “Money” Mayweather, one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, at WrestleMania 24.

For the past two months, Big Show has been focused on regaining the World Heavyweight Championship that he held for 90 seconds at WWE TLC in December. Rhodes effectively ended The World’s Largest Athlete’s title hopes when he pinned the giant inside the Elimination Chamber. According to his outspoken adversary, Show blames him for not recapturing the championship gold. Rhodes, on the other hand, interpreted this event as saving Show from further floundering at The Showcase of the Immortals, fueling the fire for their impending showdown once SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long made it official on the Mar. 2 edition of SmackDown.

The giant now has his sights set on teaching Rhodes a lesson in Miami. But, is something heavier weighing on Big Show’s mind as WrestleMania approaches. Although he holds countless acolates in his incredible WWE career, the larger-than-life Superstar only has three wins on The Grandest Stage of Them All – none of them have been in singles competition. That being said, April 1 could be his best chance at creating his ultimate WrestleMania moment, the singular image of him that will last through the ages. The giant has the opportunity to perhaps prove that his 3-8 record on The Grandest Stage of Them All is meaningless, that he should be judged by his entire body of work, which includes multiple World Championships, Tag Team Titles and, if he has his way, Rhodes Intercontinental Title.

Rhodes also has his reasons for wanting to make Big Show look like an "April fool." He celebrated day 200 day as Intercontinental Champion with the coming of March, surpassingin the iconic Shawn Michaels. The second-generation grappler has made it clear he wants to become the first Superstar to hold the Intercontinental and World Heavyweight Titles at the same time. If he can make it past The World’s Largest Athlete, he will be champion for 234 days and could be a considered a top contender to face either Sheamus or Daniel Bryan after their WrestleMania clash comes to a close. In addition, he wants to add to his own legacy at The Show of Shows. Rhodes defeated Rey Mysterio last year, and a win over Big Show would quite the notch in his belt.

The Intercontinental Championship isn’t the only thing at stake at WrestleMania XXVIII. There are major implications for Big Show’s legacy and Cody Rhodes’ quest for superstardom as they prepare for battle on April 1 in Miami. The World’s Largest Athlete will look to erase his past failures with a championship  victory, while Rhodes will try to embarrass the giant once more and establish himself as a top Superstar.  Who will have their name etched in history as a victor on The Grandest Stage of Them All?

Before the contest began, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes took the opportunity to mock Big Show and remind him of his loss to the 150-pound boxer Floyd Mayweather at WrestleMania XXIV.

As Rhodes and Big Show prepared to start the match, the Intercontinental Champion immediately tagged in Mark Henry. The World's Strongest Man didn't even have a chance to enter the ring before The World's Largest Athlete unleashed his fury. Mark Henry never had a chance to recover as he was run over by Big Show. However, Big Show turned his attention to Cody Rhodes who left ringside and retreated up the entrance ramp. This allowed Henry a chance to recover, but Sheamus tagged himself in and took down The World's Strongest Man with a powerful Brogue Kick for the win.

World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan won the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match

World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan once again overcame steep odds, outlasting The Great Khali, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, Big Show and Santino Marella in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match. With his numbers-defying victory at Elimination Chamber, Bryan retained his title and assured his place in the main event at WrestleMania XXVIII.

Because of its hellish construction and the six-to-one probability of a competitor emerging from the structure victorious, the Elimination Chamber is a career-altering match for everyone involved, and especially dangerous for the entering champion.

According to the rules of the match, each participating Superstar draws a number from one to six, signifying order of entry. The competitors who pick one and two will start, while the other combatants remain locked in individual pods, waiting to enter the melee at five-minute intervals. Superstars can be eliminated by pinfall or submission and are trapped inside the structure for the duration of the bout. While the rules of the Elimination Chamber may be daunting, the prize that awaits its winner is crystal clear.

In a match where the odds are inherently stacked against the entering champion, it’s fitting that Bryan would walk out with the title intact. Despite the fact that he’d never before experienced the unique torture that is the Chamber, the World Heavyweight Champion’s recent track record has certainly proven him as an odds-beater.

Daniel Bryan scales the Elimination Chamber, reminding everyonce once again that he is the World Heavyweight Champion.

Throughout the course of his title reign, the submission specialist has overcome everything thrown his way, including a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match against Big Show and Mark Henry. But Sunday night’s Chamber Match would present unique challenges — and a bevy of formidable challengers — to the champion.

Barrett focused on the leg of The World's Largest Athlete, slowing down Big Show in the early goings of the match.

Wade Barrett, for example, entered with high hopes, big talk and the toughness necessary to back it up. The ideal combination of ruthless nature, English tenacity and unbridled ambition, the Barrett Barrage was seemingly tailor-made for this type of showdown.

There was also Cody Rhodes, who stood to gain enormously from a Chamber Match victory. Even though his Intercontinental Championship wasn’t on the line, Rhodes came into the Chamber with eyes on simultaneously holding the World Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships, a feat that would have elevated him to legendary status.

Added to the mix were two giants, Big Show and The Great Khali, each man possessing the ability to knock out an opponent with one blow.

And then there was the dark horse. After shocking the WWE Universe by winning an impromptu Elimination Chamber Wild Card Battle Royal, sentimental favorite Santino Marella replaced an injured Randy Orton, looking to capitalize on the biggest opportunity of his career.

The first two men in the ring, Barrett battled Big Show one-on-one as the other four Superstars looked on from their pods. Next out of the gate was Cody Rhodes, who, working in tandem with Barrett for much of the battle, attempted to chop the giant down to size.

Marella was the fourth man to enter, and he immediately came face to face with Big Show, who was wholly apathetic toward the Italian Superstar. Next came Khali, but as quickly as The Punjabi Giant entered, he exited, losing a battle of giant against giant to Big Show.

The last man in his pod was the World Heavyweight Champion, and, not willing to wait for the clock to run its course, Big Show took matters into his mighty hands, decimating the chains on top of the pod and kicking through them with his giant boots. He then proceeded to lay waste to the champion inside the tight confines of the pod.

But Barrett may have saved the titleholder, delivering a boot to Big Show and then, working with Rhodes, the two men finally eliminated The World’s Largest Athlete. In Rhodes’ celebration, however, Marella snuck in and rolled up the Intercontinental Champion, sending him packing. Then the bare-knuckle brawler quickly tied Marella up in the steel chains and then turned his attention to Bryan, powerbombing the champion into the steel chains and slamming his head in the pod door.

Big Show rams into The Great Khali with a thunderous spear, and pins the Punjabi Playboy to eliminate him from the Chamber.

Marella re-emerged, however, commanding Barrett’s attention and leading to a Bryan headbutt off the top ropes. Marella pinned Barrett, leaving the dark horse in the ring with the World Heavyweight Champion. But the Italian Superstar would not pull off consecutive miracles, and Bryan — who was the last man in the ring — was the last man left standing in the end.

Big Show displays incredible strength and agilty by climbing to the top of Bryan's pod, and tears through the chains to reach the World Heavyweight Champion.

Despite the odds stacked squarely against him, Bryan became just the fifth man ever to retain his title in the Chamber Match. But the champion couldn’t celebrate for long. To the surprise of the WWE Universe, Royal Rumble Match winner Sheamus arrived in Milwaukee, intent on delivering an emphatic message to the champion. With a monstrous slam, Sheamus ended all speculation as to what title he has in his sights come WrestleMania.

When The World's Largest Athlete tagged into the match, the fired up giant unleashed an absolutely dominant assault on both of his opponents. Hurling Rhodes backwards out of the ring with tremendous force, the enormous competitor overcame The Barrett Barrage with a devastating chokeslam.

As the smoke cleared, Big Show delivered the WMD to Khali, sending the message that it will truly be every Superstar for himself this Sunday in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match. (MATCH PREVIEW)

It certainly seemed like a peculiar pairing, but The Great Khali and Randy Orton teamed up on Raw SuperShow and dominated the contest early. However, the teamwork between The Viper and The Punjabi Playboy was definitely uneasy as both Superstars aggressively tagged each other in. This allowed Rhodes and Barrett to gain an advantage over WWE’s Apex Predator. Each competitor seemed poised to outdo each other, as all four ring warriors will battle inside SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber. As Orton seemed to have the victory well within his grasp, The Punjabi Playboy once again tagged himself in to finish off the Intercontinental Champion with a huge chop. The Viper was not pleased about Khali stealing the victory and confronted the giant. WWE’s Apex Predator ducked a huge chop and took down The Punjabi Superstar with a huge RKO.
