Is anyone in the WWE Universe surprised that The Michael Cole Challenge was a sham? After weeks of threats, the sniveling announcer finally subjected J.R. to three tests for the opportunity to take over his announcing position. First, the Sooner beat Cole in an arm wrestling match. Then, J.R. schooled him in a dance competition. But the WWE Hall of Famer couldn’t pass the final challenge — a comparison to see who weighed less.

Cole may have been entertained by his swerve, but he was the only one. Outraged by what he described as a colossal waste of time, CM Punk stormed the ring and vowed to make Raw interesting again. Of course, he was quickly interrupted by Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis who announced a huge bout for tonight — CM Punk & Big Show vs. WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio & World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry.
Unimpressed by the GM's declaration, The "Voice of the Voiceless" immediately went about making Monday night more entertaining by locking Cole in a brutal Anaconda Vise.

John Cena & Jim Ross def. WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio & Michael Cole: The near-60-year-old Jim Ross was in no rush to step into the ring, but that wasn’t a problem tonight. Feeling determined going into his match against Alberto Del Rio on Sunday, John Cena dominated The Mexican Aristocrat to the point that he tagged off to Michael Cole and fled the ring. Unable to talk himself out of this one, the sniveling announcer was smashed by the West Newbury, Mass. native. After delivering a massive Attitude Adjustment, Cena tagged out to his partner and let Good Ol’ J.R. finish Cole with a wrenching ankle lock submission.

Now able to choose the stipulation for his bout against the WWE Champion on Sunday, Cena smashed Del Rio on the arena floor, delivering a huge Attitude Adjustment to The Mexican Aristocrat before battering him with with the steel ring steps. The powerful Superstar then grabbed a microphone and counted to 10. It was a brutal preview of the type of contest the challenger had selected for Vengeance — a Last Man Standing Match. Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis apologized to Jim Ross: Many WWE fans were surprised by the words that came out of John Laurinaitis’ mouth in Mexico City — “I’m sorry.” Admitting that thousands of incendiary Twitter messages from the WWE Universe helped him realize that it was wrong to fire Jim Ross last Monday night, the Interim Raw General Manager invited the WWE Hall of Famer into the ring and apologized for his public termination. Mr. Laurinaitis did not welcome J.R. back to the announce booth, though. Instead, he declared a special main event for tonight — John Cena & Jim Ross vs. WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio & Michael Cole.

Mr. Laurinaitis announced the Vengeance main event, fired Jim Ross: Less than an hour into his tenure as Interim Raw General Manager, John Laurinaitis dropped two bombshells. First, he announced that WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio will defend his title against John Cena at Vengeance. (MATCH PREVIEW)Then, in a move that shocked the WWE Universe, Mr. Laurinaitis beckoned Jim Ross into the ring and called the WWE Hall of Famer an ingrate for walking out on Triple H last week. The EVP of Talent Relations then fired the legendary announcer.

Christian def. John Morrison; main events made: Immediately stepping into his new role, Mr. Laurinaitis welcomed the embattled Superstars back into the arena and sent Christian and John Morrison directly to the ring in their street clothes. Already unhappy with the new General Manager, Captain Charisma took his anger out on The Shaman of Sexy, beating JoMo and then encouraging Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler to smash the fallen competitor.

This bout was just the beginning of the Laurinatis-led Raw Supershow. In short order, the GM scheduled two main events for the night — World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton and WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk.

The “rat bastard” of an announcer, along with his trainer Jack Swagger, faced off against fellow announcers Jerry “The King” Lawler & Jim Ross in a Country Whipping Match. When the sawdust finally settled, it was Cole & Swagger who had prevailed and their WWE Hall of Fame opponents who would be forced to “leather” the storm.

The barn-burner of a match, in which attacking your opponent with a leather strap is perfectly legal, can only be won by pinfall or submission. Nonetheless, during the bout, Cole suffered a series of welts, leaving his back looking like a road map of downtown Oklahoma City. Despite the lashing, however, Cole would get the last laugh. As Good Ol‘ J.R. mixed it up with his fellow Oklahoman, the cheese-eating Cole snuck up on the Hall of Famer and rolled him up for the improbable win.

Ross & Lawler stood in the ring baffled at the implausible turn of events. For their part, The All-American American and his partner beamed as they strode up the entrance ramp relishing Cole’s undefeated “streak.”

Who knew announcers could be so brutal? In a match pitting Michael Cole against Jim Ross, the current Raw announcer leaned heavily on his Extreme Rules tag team partner, Jack Swagger. When Good Ol’ J.R. slapped him clean across the face during their match, Cole called a “time out” to berate Ross and his Extreme Rules partner, Jerry “The King” Lawler. As he tried to exit the ring, Cole felt the sting of the barbecue king, who wailed on him until Swagger entered and nailed J.R. with a cheap shot, causing a disqualification.

The All-American American then attacked Lawler before circling back to Ross. While he snapped on an ankle lock, his weasel-like partner took off J.R.’s belt and began whipping him mercilessly. Thankfully for Ross, King was able to chase off the dastardly duo. The whole ugly incident prompted Raw’s anonymous General Manager to designate their match at Extreme Rules a tag team Country Whipping Match.
